I have experience with the above plus Keystone, Damon, Monaco, Beaver and Fleetwood.
We grow up and lived all of our lives in the Cedar Rapids area except for the past few years. My wife and I are “fulltimers” and I have worked for RV Dealers in Nevada, Colorado, Washington, and Arizona.
I have been doing mobile RV repair for the last year and we have decided to bring our mobile RV service back to Iowa for the summer season.

A Review on EPDM Rubber Roofs
If you’re confused about rubber roof maintenance it most likely isn’t your
fault. There is enough misinformation and contrary information out there
to make your head spin. For example this is what I found when I did my research.
First, a number of web sites are still posting an “ancient” public service
Announcement released in l997 supposedly from the Dicor Corporation, a leading manufacturer of rubber roofs, purporting a large amount of misinformation concerning the care and maintenance of rubber roofs and also
Stating the following:
` - EPDM rubber roofs are designed to last 20 years or longer.
- Rubber roofs do not require an application of anything to
protect it from UV light.
- Consumers are spending millions of dollars needlessly for cleaners
and protectorates .
Before I go any further, I should state I do not know who authored the 1997 public
service announcement. It may or may not have been from Dicor but imagine
my surprise when I went to their website (dicor.com) and the first thing I found was their
line of cleaners, roof protectorants, and roof coatings. Go figure!
I’ve also discovered that Alpha systems, another major manufacturer of rubber roofs,
suggest using “Protect-al “rubber roof cleaner and treatment, a product I’ve used for
a couple years now.
The moral of all this is rubber roofs do not take care of themselves. They require
periodic cleaning and treating. More importantly the rubber roof sealing caulk
applied around every opening in your RV roof (except the air conditioner) needs to
be inspected annually for any possible cracking. Cracks obviously lead to holes which
can allow water to pass through the opening. If you’re unsure about the condition of
your roof give us a call for an inspection. Then there is no guessing about the condition of your rubber roof.
